Terms of use
What you can expect from bisaat, and what it expects from you. Written to be read rather than skipped.
Last updated 10 October 2026.
The short version
- It is free, and there is nothing to pay for.
- It is one person's work, offered as it is, with no promise that it is always up or always right.
- Be decent to other players: no engine help, no abuse.
- The engine's verdict on your move is an opinion, however confident the number looks.
- You can leave whenever you like, and take your games with you.
What bisaat is
A chess coach: it reviews your games, teaches lessons, sets puzzles, plays you, and lets you play other people. It uses Stockfish, a separate free chess engine, to do the analysis.
It is free to use. There is no subscription, no paid tier and nothing to buy. If that ever changes, nobody will be charged for something they already had without being told first.
Your account
- One account is for one person. Signing in means asking for a code by email and typing it back.
- That code is the key to your account. Do not forward it to anybody.
- You need to be 10 or over. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian needs to be happy for you to be here.
- You can delete your account at any time from the page, and everything in it goes.
Playing other people
This is the part with somebody else on the other side of it, so it is the part with rules:
- Play your own moves. No engine, no database, no help from another person while a game is on. It is a waste of your time and it ruins theirs.
- Be civil in the chat. Abuse, harassment and slurs are not on. The filter stops some of it; the rest is a matter of behaving.
- Finish your games. Walking away from a losing position instead of resigning leaves somebody waiting on a clock.
- Report rather than retaliate. There is a button, a person reads it, and nothing happens to anybody automatically.
Games are looked over afterwards for signs of help. If an account is being used to spoil other people's games, it can be removed. That is a decision a person makes, not a program.
What not to do to the site
- Do not try to break into it, or into anybody else's account.
- Do not hammer it with automated requests. It is one small server and a review already asks a lot of it.
- Do not use it to store or send anything illegal.
About the analysis, the ratings and the lessons
Three honest warnings, because a confident-looking number is easy to over-trust:
- The engine's verdict is an opinion. It is a strong one, and it is right far more often than you or I would be, but a label on a move is a judgement made by a program at a certain depth, not a fact about chess.
- The ratings here are ours. "You played like 1200" is bisaat's estimate on bisaat's scale, worked out from games whose players' ratings were known. It is not a FIDE rating and it is not any other site's rating, and one game cannot really say what your strength is - it takes a number of them before the figure settles.
- The lessons are checked but not infallible. Every line is verified with Stockfish before it goes in. If you find one that is wrong, the Feedback tab is the place to say so, and it will be fixed.
Your games are yours
You keep every right in the games you play and paste in. Using bisaat does not give us any ownership of them, and we do not publish them or pass them on. Every reviewed game has a Download button that writes it out as a PGN file, so leaving does not mean losing your work.
The site itself - the code, the lessons, the words - belongs to its author. The code is published under the MIT licence; see the project's README for exactly what is and is not covered, including the parts that belong to other people.
What it is built on
- Stockfish does the analysis. It is separate software under the GNU General Public License v3 and is not part of this program.
- The piece images are Colin M. L. Burnett's set from Wikimedia Commons, used under its BSD licence.
- The opening figures come from freely licensed (CC0) public games, and what is published from them is counts, never anybody's games.
No guarantees
bisaat is provided as it is. It is one person's project, not a company with a support desk, and it comes with no warranty of any kind.
It may be down. A review may fail halfway. A feature may change or disappear. Your progress is backed up by the service that stores it, but you should not treat this site as the only copy of anything you care about - that is what the Download button is for.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from using it or from not being able to use it. Nothing here takes away rights you have that cannot be taken away.
Ending it
You can stop using bisaat at any time and delete your account from the page.
We can close an account that is being used to cheat other players, abuse people, or attack the site. If that happens to you and you think it is wrong, write and say so - it will be looked at by a person.
If these terms change
The date at the top says when they last did. Anything that genuinely changes what you are agreeing to will be said on the site, not quietly edited in here.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away any protection your own country's law gives you.
Who to contact
Anything about these terms, an account that has been closed, or something on the site that is wrong.
